Breck Coffee Wholesale Partners: The Crown
The Crown’s coffee is as delicious and comforting as their atmosphere is rustic and cozy. When your legs need a break from skiing, the Crown is the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee before wandering up and down Main Street. Not only do they serve coffee to wake you up, but they also have boozy drinks to help you wind down. Whether you’re looking to start or end your day, the Crown’s wide range of drinks, pastries, breakfast and lunch options will not disappoint.
We highly recommend the cubano latte, a sweet twist on a classic latte with espresso, cinnamon, sugar and your choice of milk. Or, if you’re going the boozy route, the warm apple pie with fireball whiskey, vanilla vodka, apple cider and whipped cream. For pastries, the homemade cinnamon rolls are to die for and big enough to share!
If your legs are too tired from skiing to even make it down to Main Street to enjoy a cup of coffee, have no fear, because the Crown now delivers! More on this at the end of the interview with the coffee shop owners, Sara and Brett.
What’s your name, what do you do? Tell us about yourself.
Sara: “Sara and Brett Cox. We own the Crown. We bought the Crown our first year of marriage in 2014. It was a family business and we both left our full time jobs to do this full time. Since then, we’ve grown the business to include nine employees and we’ve added a two-year-old to the mix, and a set of twins on the way.”
Favorite thing to do in Breck?
Sara: “Mountain bike in the summer followed by cross country skiing in the winter. It’s changed a bit to include more kid friendly things and trails. We live here to live here, we don’t live here to work here.”
Favorite Trail?
Sara: “Bemrose Trail.”
What made you want to buy the Crown?
Sara: “I had the romantic idea of owning a coffee shop. I felt like there was a vibe that was missing in the existing coffee shops at the time. I just had a vision, and figured if i would like it, other people would like it too.”
What’s the best and worst part about opening a coffee shop?
Sara: “Best - being an active and contributing member to the community. Worst - the early mornings, and they aren’t even that early for us.”
How many cups of coffee do you drink a day? How many days a week?
Sara: “I’m a strict one-cupper. If I have a second one, it’s hit or miss how I’m going to go that day.”
Why do you need coffee?
Sara: “Ha. Hi, my name is Sara, and I’m an addict. It’s very much so part of my daily routine.”
What do you miss most about ‘normal’ (life pre-COVID-19)?
Sara: “I miss seeing our locals’ smiling faces and giving hugs in general.”
Favorite activity to drink coffee while doing?
Sara: “In the car on the way to an adventure.”
Name best duo: Coffee + ______
Sara: “Heavy cream and Baileys. Just kidding I’m pregnant.”
What makes the Crown special?
Sara: “We have a liquor license and can do to-go drinks. We can provide your apres ski or pre-ski apres drinks. People come for coffee and stay for the boozy coffee. We also offer a lot of local products wherever possible, from the homemade chai made in Boulder, Sanctuary Chai, to Di’s Bagels in Breck.”
Any exciting upcoming news from the Crown?
Sara: “Given the times, we have started delivery, which is an arm of business I never thought would ever be a part of my business. We’re really trying to keep our locals happy and keep our business going and keep jobs for everyone.”
